Pharmacovigilance and Adverse Drug Reaction Reporting Study
Health Resilience and Response Network (HRRN) is recruiting Study Officers to support a research study focused on pharmacovigilance and adverse drug reaction (ADR) reporting. We are looking for motivated, detail-oriented health professionals who can help strengthen the identification, documentation, assessment and reporting of suspected adverse reactions to medicines.
Positions are available in Kenya and South Africa. The study will work closely with health facilities and clinical teams to improve medicine safety, reporting quality and the use of safety information in patient care.
Study Officer — Kenya
Target applicants: Registered nurses and clinical officers with experience in clinical care, public health, medicine safety, research or health information.
Key responsibilities
• Coordinate study activities at participating health facilities.
• Identify and document suspected adverse drug reactions and medication-related safety concerns.
• Support completion, review and timely submission of ADR and pharmacovigilance reports.
• Work with nurses, clinicians, pharmacists and facility managers to improve reporting practices.
• Conduct staff orientation, follow-up visits, data verification and source-document review.
• Maintain accurate, confidential study records and escalate serious or unexpected safety events promptly.
• Support data entry, quality checks, progress updates and preparation of study reports.
Requirements
• Professional qualification and current registration to practise in Kenya as a nurse or clinical officer.
• Relevant clinical or public-health experience; pharmacovigilance, ADR reporting or research experience is an advantage.
• Strong communication, organization, documentation and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively across health facilities.
• Willingness to travel to study sites and work within study procedures and timelines.
• Good computer literacy and ability to handle confidential information responsibly.

Study Officer — South Africa
Target applicants: Professional nurses and clinical officers or equivalent frontline clinical professionals with experience in clinical care, public health, medicine safety, research or health information.
Key responsibilities
• Coordinate implementation of study activities at participating facilities.
• Identify, document and follow up suspected adverse drug reactions and other medicine-safety events.
• Support accurate and timely ADR reporting in accordance with study procedures and applicable requirements.
• Engage healthcare workers through training, mentoring and routine feedback on reporting quality.
• Conduct monitoring visits, data checks, record review and participant or facility follow-up as required.
• Protect patient privacy, maintain complete study documentation and promptly escalate serious safety concerns.
• Contribute to data management, quality assurance, analysis support and study deliverables.
Requirements
• Professional qualification and eligibility to practise in South Africa as a nurse or relevant clinical professional.
• Experience in a hospital, clinic, public-health programme, pharmacovigilance or research setting.
• Knowledge of adverse drug reaction reporting and commitment to accurate safety documentation.
• Excellent communication, teamwork, time-management and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to travel to study sites and work with multidisciplinary teams.
• Good computer skills and a high standard of confidentiality and professional conduct.
